It was very special for me to be able to accompany Dominique and David as a wedding photographer in Basel this year. Why? For one thing, the two of them had grown so dear to me in the planning that I could hardly wait to meet them in person. It was also the first time that I, as a wedding photographer, got to know Basel better – or Switzerland in general. I have always dreamed of being able to photograph not only in tranquil Stuttgart, but also in other cities and countries. Thus, this wedding was a small premiere for me.
Just arrived the night before, it was freshly rested on Saturday morning to the hairdresser, or hairdresser, as the Swiss used to say. After a warm welcome by the whole troupe of excited girls, the reportage at Head Hair in Birsfelden started at point 9 for me. Dominique was already aware of her tension and so a round of sparkling wine was just fine for everyone (except for myself).
After all the hairdresser had finished, we went straight to the home of Dominique, where I spent the next hour. There, the stylist was waiting for us, a friend of Dominique, who had kindly offered her services for the wedding in Basel. Also very actively involved in the implementation of the wedding was Dominique’s mother. For weeks, the gifted fashion designer had been working on a small but fine suit for the son of Dominique and David, who exactly matched the design of the suit David had chosen for his wedding. After the make-up was over, Dominique slipped into the wedding dress. At least now we realized that the excitement in Dominique was getting stronger and closer to the wedding in Basel.
Just after getting ready I moved to the apartment of both of them to accompany David for a while. There I was able to take a few Getting Ready pictures from David and accompany them to the beautiful, bright church in Basel. Traditionally, the bride entered the St. Arbogast church together with her father. Overall, the wedding was super nice and the British accent of the pastor, who incidentally also presented first-class vocal insertions, gave the whole ceremony a sympathetic touch. It was also about how they actually get to know each other, and certainly the one or other tear rolled down the cheek of some wedding guests.
After the emotional wedding, a bagpipe player in a Scottish costume led the wedding party to the nearby restaurant where the aperitif took place. After the congratulations a wedding car, a beautiful vintage car, picked them up. The maid of honor and I follow them to a secluded park in Basel. There we did the couple shoot, which made all participants fun from beginning to end – because the two had no fear to show their emotions in front of the camera.
On time with the first raindrops we made our way to the restaurant “Bahnkantine”, a stylish wedding location in the centre of Basel. With the beautiful decoration, many details, a large candy bar and especially great wedding guests it was a pleasure to be wedding photographer and to accompany this great event.

If you´re also looking for some exotic means of transport in Basel, the following ideas might be interesting for you. Indeed, Dominique and David not only used the car to get from A to B. As a surprise, the couple and all the guest were driving with a Tram from the church to the wedding location. There, the wedding couple was taken to the restaurant with a Rikscha while the guests walked the small distance. Also, as a wedding photographer these extras are nice to document and allow me to capture additional funny moments.
I get excited every time I stumble over these pictures. It sets me back to this beautiful day and all the magic moments. More than ever before this wedding showed how important it is that there is sympathy and even friendship between me and the wedding couple. Only this precondition ensured that we could get along this wedding day so easily and could capture the most intimate and real photos. Therefore, it is super important for me to get to know you, get involved with the details about you and your relationship and be part of the planning process for your special day.
